Proteolytic enzymes are exceptionally sensitive biologically active molecules. They can be relatively easily degraded by improper storage, exposure to moisture, temperature stress, harsh technological handling, or an inadequately designed manufacturing process. For enzyme-based products, therefore, it is not enough to consider only what was weighed into the formulation at the beginning of production. What is essential is what is actually present in the final product in a functional, active form.
Two products may contain the same number of milligrams of enzymatic raw material and yet differ substantially in their real effectiveness. The reason is simple: mass alone says nothing about the true activity of the enzyme. That activity depends on the quality of the raw material, manufacturing conditions, processing methods, formulation stability, and whether the activity is preserved throughout the entire shelf life. With enzymes, it is therefore not enough to know how much substance the product contains. It is necessary to know what activity that substance actually has.
Pre-release laboratory testing (oral-use products)
Before release, every oral-use batch undergoes extensive enzymatic-activity testing:
- Identity & activity: trypsin/chymotrypsin verified with enzyme-specific activity assays.
- Activity, not milligrams: activity is quantified per dose and per gram.
- Robustness: stress checks (time/temperature/humidity) and trend analysis against acceptance criteria.
Result: a batch leaves the lab only when its measured activity meets specification.
Control of incoming materials
The quality of our products begins with the incoming materials. Every key enzyme raw material is assessed not only in terms of identity and composition, but above all in terms of its actual activity. For proteolytic enzymes, this step is essential, because only a properly characterized and laboratory-verified raw material can serve as the basis for a high-quality finished product.
In Wald Biotech laboratories, we evaluate incoming materials with a focus on the parameters that are truly decisive for proteolytic enzymes. We do not rely solely on general supplier declarations; instead, we actively verify the quality and functional properties of the raw materials. This gives us control over the material entering production and over the biochemical properties that can realistically be expected from it.
Batch-by-batch verification
Every manufactured batch undergoes multi-level quality control. This includes internal control at Wald Biotech, as well as confirmation by independent external laboratories in the Czech Republic and in the USA/Germany. For every batch, all key quality parameters are verified, including: microbiological purity, absence of undesirable contaminants, exclusion of allergens, including lactose and gluten, confirmation of composition and formulation, and above all, enzymatic activity.
Critically, enzymatic activity is not assessed only as a general overall value. It is determined specifically for each individual enzyme, because only in this way can it be truly confirmed that the finished product meets the required specifications. We apply this approach to every batch. Quality at Walzym is therefore not declared once and assumed thereafter; it is continuously and systematically verified.
Stability throughout shelf life
For enzyme-based products, it is not enough to confirm high activity only at the beginning of production. It is equally important to demonstrate that the product retains this activity during storage and throughout the entire declared shelf life. For Walzym products, the preservation of enzymatic activity throughout the full shelf life has been experimentally demonstrated. This is exceptionally important in proteolytic enzymes, because long-term retention of activity is exactly what distinguishes a technologically well-mastered product from a mere label claim. An enzyme product is only meaningful if it is active not only at the time of manufacture, but also at the moment it is actually used by the customer.
Expertise behind Walzym
Proteolytic enzymes are among the most biochemically and technologically demanding ingredients used in oral products. It is not enough simply to mix them into a capsule. One must understand their physicochemical properties, stability, environmental sensitivity, methods of activity determination, and the technological conditions required to preserve that activity from the raw material stage all the way to the finished product.
This deep biochemical and technological expertise is one of the core pillars of Wald Biotech. Our work is built on detailed knowledge of proteolytic enzymes, rigorous laboratory control, and the ability to translate scientific and technological know-how into a finished product with high, verified, and long-term stable quality. For this reason, Walzym products represent the top tier in the field of orally administered proteolytic enzymes. Not only because of their composition, but above all because their quality is not defined by marketing language, but by measurable parameters, laboratory control, and batch-by-batch confirmation.
